Christina Burjan

Violin and Viola Teacher

Hi, my name’s Chrissy and I’m currently studying at theUniversity of Sydney. I began learning the violin when I was four years old and later decided to swap over to the viola on which I completed a program of combined Amus and Lmus repertoire for my final Year 12 program. I attended MLC School on an all-rounder scholarship and was awarded the position of music captain in my final year. Throughout my time at MLC I was lucky enough to partake in performances at venues including the Sydney Opera House, Town Hall, City Recital Hall and the Australian Embassy in Washington. Alongside my involvement with both my school’s string and choral ensembles, I remained an active member of the internationally acclaimed, audition-based Sydney Children’s Choir between the ages of 6 to 17. In 2015, I was selected to tour to Hong Kong to perform with the choir at the World Youth and Children’s Choir Festival. As well as performances alongside groups including the Sydney Symphony, Australian Chamber Orchestra and Goldner Quartet, my involvement with the choir similarly provided me with opportunities to work alongsidecritically acclaimed musicians, composers and artistic directors including Vladmir Ashkenazy, David Robertson, Elena Kats-Chernin, Paul Stanhope and Ross Edwards. In 2017, I was offered one of a selective number of placements to partake in the Gondawna Choirs Composition School and was additionally awarded the MLC Matthew Hindson award for Composition.

More recently, although I’ve decided to pursue my tertiary studies outside of music, instead embarking upon a Bachelor of Advanced Studies in Politics and International Relations, I’ve continued to maintain my involvement with the musical community. Most recently, I’ve had the privilege of playing for the Leichardt Espresso Chorus’ Messiah Reimagined Concert, Operantics’ St Matthew Passion and the University of Sydney Symphony’s concert series, amongst others. As well as now teaching a wide range of violin and viola students both privately and peripatetically, I’ve also begun conducting and tutoring for several string ensembles from a wide range of schools and groups including my community orchestra, SymphoniaJubilate.
