About Victoria

Victoria started playing when she was only 6 years old

Victoria Jacono-Gilmovich took up the violin when she was just six years old. Millions of notes later, the music still invokes the same wonder as an integral part of her being.

In addition to being the current concert master with The Metropolitan Orchestra, Victoria has worked with many orchestras both locally and internationally including the SBS Radio and Television Orchestra, the Young Symphonists Orchestra, the International Youth Orchestra in Spain 2001, the Sydney Sinfonia Orchestra and the Eminence Symphony Orchestra. As a concertmaster of these orchestras, she has performed in Japan, China, Hungary, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Spain and New Zealand.

Performances & Awards

As a soloist, Victoria has performed with the SBS Radio and Television Orchestra, the Young Symphonists Orchestra, the Queensland Youth Orchestra, the PLC Chamber Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, the Balmain Sinfonia, Sydney Sinfonia Orchestra and the Mueller International Chamber Orchestra. She has also worked closely with several Australian composers to commission and workshop new contemporary works in addition to performing and recording new music.

Victoria has won several awards and competitions including the National Youth Concerto competition, the Wenkart Foundation Scholarship, the Marcus Edwards Violin prize, the Perry Hart Memorial prize, the International String Player of the year award at the Gisborne International Music Competition in New Zealand, and the Order of Australia Association Scholarship.

Director of the Inner West Institute of Music

A busy advocate for music and musician development, Victoria is the founder and director of the Inner West Institute of Music, an Australian Music Examinations Board examiner, a conductor at Sydney Youth Orchestras and the NSW President of the Australian String Teacher’s Association. She has a Bachelor of Music with honours from the Australian Institute of Music as well as having recognised credentials across both violin and viola.

Victoria believes that music is a gift that should be shared generously and is passionate about using her talents as a musician to give back, performing for many charity organisations and encouraging her students to perform publicly as regularly as possible. She hopes to inspire the next generation of musicians with easily accessible opportunities for children, whilst also mentoring young teachers.
