
Piano Flute & Composition Teacher in Sydney’s Inner West
James Court is an ARIA-nominated Sydney-based multi-instrumentalist, composer, and music producer. He has experience teaching piano, flute, musical theatre, composition, and music theory to people of all ages, in both group and private settings.
Beginning his music studies on piano and flute, he performed as a flautist in Canberra Youth Orchestra, and achieved his Associate of Music (AMusA) in flute performance in 2009 at the age of 15. He moved on to study singing with Vince Jones and Gerry Sword and is currently studying for his Bachelor of Music (BMus) in Composition at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
As a composer, James’ works have been heard in podcasts, ABC TV shows, and numerous film and stage productions. He is best known for his collaboration with the award-winning children’s musical group, The Beanies, having written and produced each of their seven albums since the group’s inception in 2016. His work on the second Beanies album, Imagination Station, earned the group both a 2018 Australian Podcast Award and a 2019 ARIA nomination.
Also active in the field of musical theatre, James has taken on roles as the assistant musical director for both Squabbalogic’s 2014 production of Sondheim on Sondheim and Showwork’s 2016 production of Heathers at the Sydney Opera House. He has written three musicals, most notably The Great Emu War of 1932, workshopped in Melbourne by Home-Grown, and The Beanies’ Egg-straordinary Day, a musical for kids which premiered at the 2018 Sydney Fringe Festival.
